France will walk over the solar highway

Debate over “solar freakin roadways has not been over yet”, uncertainties are still there but france government is impressed by the idea and chose to give a chance to solar roadways.

Ségolène Royal, the minister for ecology and energy, has announced that the France has decided to cover 1,000km (over 600 miles) worth of road with solar panels, in order to provide energy to homes.

According to the Agency of Environment and Energy Management of France, 4m2 of solar paneled road should be enough to supply one house with electricity. So from this scheme it is expected that this will supply electricity to around five million homes.

This solar roadway will use solar panels developed by civil engineering firm Colas. Panels will come in thin strips that will be glued to the existing roadway surface.

Solar road is terms for a number of different proposals to incorporate technologies into roads for generating solar energy, for improving the operation of autonomous cars, for lighting, and for monitoring the condition of the road.
