India achieves the total installed solar capacity of 4,878.88 MW

India has reached the total installed solar power generation capacity of 4,878.88 MW by 11, December 2015 led by Rajasthan and Gujarat, informed by power minister Piyush Goyal.

Rajasthan has the largest solar capacity of 1,256.7 MW, Gujarat at 1,024.15 MW and Madhya Pradesh at 678.58 MW.

It was also informed that total installed wind power generation capacity was 24,677.72 MW by October.

Tamil Nadu has the largest wind capacity of 7,514.76 MW followed by Maharashtra at 4,638.35 MW and Gujarat at 3,876.50 MW.

India had added 2,308.1 MW of wind power generation capacity in the last fiscal.

It is notable that India has an ambitious target of 175 GW power generation from renewable sources by 2022, which includes 100 GW of solar and 60 GW of wind energy.
